The SAG Awards are January 27 at the Shrine Auditorium, simulcast live by Turner’s TNT and TBS. As previously announced, Alan Alda will receive the guild’s Life Achievement Award during the ceremony.

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release the critically acclaimed drama The Wife digitally Jan. 22, and on Blu-ray and DVD Jan. 29. Based on the novel by Meg Wolitzer, the story provides a revealing look into the 40-year relationship of Joan and Joe Castleman, (Glenn Close and Jonathan Pryce) and the world of literature for female writers. As Joe is about to be awarded the Nobel Prize for literature, the win threatens to expose the details and arrangements that define their marriage. Continue here

Coming-of-age drama “We the Animals” has scored a leading five Spirit Awards nominations, with “Eighth Grade,” “First Reformed,” and “You Were Never Really Here” taking four each. Nominations were announced on Friday morning by “Crazy Rich Asians” star Gemma Chan and Molly Shannon at the W Hotel in Hollywood. The awards ceremony will take place on Feb. 23 — the day before the Academy Awards — in a tent on the beach in Santa Monica, Calif. The show, now in its 34th year, will air on IFC.

Glenn Close has won multiple Tonys, Emmys and numerous other awards in her storied career. She also is, perplexingly, a frequent Oscar bridesmaid, having been nominated six times but still without a win. That finally and deservedly could change this year with The Wife, in which she delivers what might be her greatest big-screen performance. The film is equally as good as its star, a movie that is as timely and compelling as they come.

Slater is also terrific here in a sly turn that is lots of fun to watch.

It is always wonderful to catch up with great actors, which is exactly the experience talking to award-winning actors Glenn Close, Jonathan Pryce and Christian Slater, who all topbill the upcoming drama, “The Wife.” Glenn, who is now 71 years old, is still charming after all these years. Of course we remember her for her amazing performances as the obsessed Alexandra “Alex” Forrest in the psychological erotic thriller “Fatal Attraction” (1987) and onstage as Norma Desmond for the musical “Sunset Boulevard” (1995). Her talented 30-year-old daughter Annie Starke plays the young Joan Castleman in the film “The Wife.” Read More here


The title of the film, The Wife, gives away about as much as the titular character. Is she a good one? A bad lady? The answer is a mystery for a large portion of this slow-burning character study. One thing’s for certain, this wifey is brimming with conflicting emotions in this bittersweet, character-driven drama.

Christian Slater meanwhile, is on hand playing a cunning hack journalist hell-bent on writing Joe’s biography. He looks poised to expose or at least topple this celebrated author from his mantle.
