Who was the mastermind behind the Isabella Stewart Gardner heist? NBC pointed a convincing finger Monday night at James Spader. Or, rather, the super-criminal Raymond “Red” Reddington he plays on the breakout fall drama “The Blacklist.” In Monday’s episode, Red was seen admiring Rembrandt’s 1633 masterpiece, “The Storm on the Sea of Galilee,” one of 13 pieces of art stolen from the museum in 1990. They set “The Blacklist” in Washington, but in truth it inhabits a Manhattan studio where “Law & Order” lived for two decades. Judging from its out-of-the-gate robust ratings, good reviews and swift full-season pickup, this new NBC crime thriller could be settling in for a long stay of its own. There will be fewer updates over the next month as it is the Rugby League World Cup and some of my weekends will be spent at games! News will be updated on a regular basis and I do have lots to add to the galleries through Dec and the holiday period. (Come on England!). The Blacklist & The Office Season 8 screencaps will continue on a weekly basis but may be a few days late after their UK airing depending on which matches I will be attending that week! Thanks for your patience!

To understand James Spader’s character on “The Blacklist” — or at least to come a little closer to understanding him — it’s necessary to look at Spader’s hair. More specifically, his lack of hair. Viewers who sampled the pilot of the NBC thriller couldn’t take their eyes off Spader, playing a master criminal who, for motives as yet unknown, teams up with the FBI, but only if he can work with a specific rookie agent. “The Voice” and “The Blacklist” have led NBC to the nightlong Monday win among ABC, CBS, NBC & Fox in all key categories for a fourth week in a row, winning six of six half-hours in 18-49 among those nets, also for a fourth week in a row. NBC won the night among the Big 4 by a 74% margin in 18-49 (with a 4.0 rating vs. a 2.3 for #2 Fox). Read more @ thefutoncritic.com
