HBO has put in development The Dolls, a limited series with Laura Dern and Issa Rae attached attached to star and executive produce. The project hails from Dern and Jayme Lemons’ Jaywalker Pictures. Rae, who’s under a deal with HBO, also will co-write the project with Laura Kittrell and Amy Aniobi, who work with Rae on HBO’s Insecure, which has been renewed for a fourth season.

Written by Rae, Kittrell and Aniobi, The Dolls, inspired by true events, recounts the aftermath of Christmas Eve riots within two small Arkansas towns in 1983…riots which erupted over, yes,…Cabbage Patch Dolls. The limited series explores class, race, privilege and what it takes to be a “good mother.”

Not only will it features the conclusion of ambitious (and bizarrely controversial) new Star Wars trilogy, it will also bring Jordan Peele’s follow-up to Get Out, the first Marvel film focused squarely on a female hero, and a new Quentin Tarantino picture. And perhaps most importantly, we’ll finally get to see what Pikachu is like as a detective. Here, we’ve rounded up 31 movies set for release in 2019 that are already on our radar.

Cold Pursuit
Release date: February 8
Cast: Liam Neeson, Laura Dern, Emmy Rossum, William Forsythe
Directed by: Hans Petter Moland (In Order of Disappearance)
Why we’re excited: Liam Neeson is a snowplow driver who takes on a drug cartel based in the Rocky Mountains after his son is murdered for getting in too deep with gangsters. It’s a black comedy. Neeson’s character’s name is Nels Coxman. He blows stuff up with the snowplow. The trailer alone looks absolutely hilarious.
