Much has changed for the LGBT community since the 1993 release of the original TV adaptation of “Tales of the City,” something that producer Alan Poul took into account in revamping the LGBT classic in 2019. nPoul spoke with Variety‘s “TV Take” podcast about what’s new in the latest iteration of the show. “We had to keep pushing forward with the narrative,” Poul told Variety. Initially, there was talk of remaking the original, but Poul said he wanted the story to continue into present day. Continue here

Tale of the City‘s Mary Ann may be in the middle of a midlife crisis in these first photos from the show’s upcoming revival, but she makes it look good. The latest chapter of Armistead Maupin’s LGBT-centric series will get underway this summer. In the meantime, Netflix on Tuesday released some shots from the San Francisco-set series, which will reunite original cast members Laura Linney, Paul Gross, Olympia Dukakis and Barbara Garrick. They’ll join new additions Ellen Page (The Umbrella Academy), Murray Bartlett (Looking) and Charlie Barnett (Chicago Fire). Read More here

One of my favorite TV miniseries, “Tales of the City,” is having its 25th anniversary. To celebrate, the streaming service Acorn TV is making it available beginning on June 4. The six-parter, which was followed by two sequel miniseries, is based on the novel by Armistead Maupin. It’s about looking for love, sexual identity, and peace among a group of neighbors in 1970s San Francisco, and it features a number of now well-know names, including Laura Linney, Billy Campbell, Thomas Gibson, Chloe Webb, Parker Posey, Mary Kay Place, and Olympia Dukakis.
