Variety and PBS SoCal KOCE have announced the lineup for the eighth season of “Variety Studio: Actors on Actors.” The Emmy Award-winning series will air in two episodes on PBS SoCal KOCE, the first on Tuesday, June 19 at 7 p.m. and the second on Thursday, June 21 at 7 p.m. Both episodes will stream on pbssocal.org following their premieres.
This year’s lineup of pairings includes: Issa Rae (“Insecure”) with Michael B. Simmons (“Counterpart”) with Edie Falco (“Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez Murders”); Alison Brie (“GLOW”) with Jessica Biel (“The Sinner”); Maggie Gyllenhaal (“The Deuce”) with Jonathan Groff (“Mindhunter”); Frankie Shaw (“SMILF”) with Sara Gilbert (“Roseanne”); Jeff Daniels (“The Looming Tower”) with Laura Linney (“Ozark”); Darren Criss (“American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace”) with Mandy Moore (“This is Us”); David Harbour (“Stranger Things”) with Kyle MacLachlan (“Twin Peaks”); and Dakota Fanning (“The Alienist”) with Freddie Highmore (“The Good Doctor”). Vulture today announced the lineup for Vulture Festival, a weekend of high-profile events bringing the entertainment site to life, celebrating the best of today’s television, comedy, film, podcasts, and more. The pop-culture extravaganza, taking place May 19–20 at Milk Studios in New York City, includes panels, screenings, performances, and live podcast recordings. Additional events will be announced in the coming weeks. The initial lineup for the two-day live showcase, curated by Vulture’s editors, includes these events:

Maggie Gyllenhaal kicks off the new Emmy season of The Actor’s Side, my Deadline series that focuses on the art and craft of acting with today’s top stars. Gyllenhaal came to our studio to talk about HBO’s The Deuce, the edgy series about the explosion of porn in the early 1970s in New York City — she plays a hooker named Candy who gets sucked into this world and becomes a porn actress and filmmaker. Sound like Stormy Daniels? I asked her if there was any connection, as well as how Donald Trump figured into the making of the show’s first season and what attracts her to daring roles like this one.
