The Conjuring franchise launched by James Wan in 2013 is unique in that it has more spinoffs than namesakes. To date, we’ve had two Conjuring movies, but we’ve also gotten The Nun and The Curse of La Llorona plus two Annabelle movies with a third, Annabelle Comes Home, creeping into US theaters on June 28th. Join Nostalgic Nebula on May 30th for a one-night only screening of Zack Snyder’s Watchmen—the Director’s Cut! We invite you to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the film adaption of Alan Moore’s 1987 limited comic series with a meeting of masked vigilantes! Come dressed as your favorite costumed hero, and enjoy themed drinks and a tribute to Phillip Glass’s Pruit Igoe and Prophesies by the Nostalgic Nebula Orchestra before the film. Watchmen takes place in an alternate 1985 America, in which costumed superheroes are part of the fabric of everyday society. When a former colleague is murdered, the masked vigilante Rorschach sets out to uncover a plot to kill and discredit all past and present superheroes. He reconnects with his former crime-fighting legion—a ragtag group of retired superheroes. Their mission is to watch over humanity…but who is watching the Watchmen? Don’t forget to come in costume! We’d love to see any and all superhero themed cosplay you’ve got to show us! Be sure to arrive early, as doors open at 7 p.m. and the musical tribute and film start at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for this special event are $15.00.

Celebrity residents Stephen Colbert and his wife Evelyn, the president of Montclair Film, aren’t the only ones who lend local cred to the annual festival. Dagmara Domincyzk: The actress, who lives in Montclair with her husband, actor Patrick Wilson and their two boys, stars in the family feature “Abe,” screening on Saturday, May 4 at 2:00 p.m. at the Claridge 1 and on Sunday, May 5, 11:45 a.m. at the Clairidge 5. In a nutshell: Abe tells the story of a boy with a Jewish mother (Domincyzk) and Palestinian father who apprentices with a Brazilian chef in a plan to unite his family around the dinner table.
