The Spirit of Gainesville Award, in its sixth year, honors those in the community who work hard at helping others.
This year’s winners include:
â– Community Service – Heart Phoenix and Jeffrey Weisberg are the co-founders of the River Phoenix Center for Peacebuilding, named in honor of Pheonix’s son, River, a celebrated young actor and musician who died in 1993 at age 23. The center encourages solution-focused work with local schools, law enforcement, social service agencies and other community groups. Phoenix has been an activist most of her life and her husband, Weisberg, is a state-certified mediator. They call themselves “solutionaries.” Read More: // here
