Whistler cinephiles get Canada’s first look at last River Phoenix film

Whistler Film Festival audiences will get Canada’s first look at actor River Phoenix’s last film among other edgy odds and ends gathered by programmer Paul Gratton in his second year at the mountain movie bash. Phoenix, who died of a drug overdose outside an L.A. night club on Halloween night 20 years ago, stars in Dark Blood, about a young widower living on a nuclear testing site. The movie is among 84 films — 42 features and 42 shorts — screening at the 13th annual festival Dec. 4-8. Continue @
